So true.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us … If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8, 10

Today we’ve almost done away with the idea of sin. Our culture rejects sin as old-fashioned, so we’ve taken away the word sin and replaced it with new words in our vocabulary.

Some of these high‑sounding phrases are: error, mistake, misjudgment, weakness, psychological maladjustment, glandular malfunction, and a stumble upward—anything but sin.

We’ve gone through the medicine cabinet and put new labels on old bottles of poison. So we have new terminology. We’ve tried to change things, but they’ve not really been changed at all. We have some egg-headed people—with all of their learnedness and intelligence—who have said “sin”…

  1. Yes I agree Sue, even some in the Church whitewash Sin but if we read (1 John 1:8-9) in context (see below) we will realize it is referring to those who say ….. we have not Sinned so don’t need Salvation and so they are calling God a liar, which sadly many do even some in the Church, they cover up their Sin, minimize it or blame others instead of having True heart repentance, yes until we are Born Again and Perfected in Love when it will no longer be necessary, Jesus is our Advocate and we can be forgiven. I am not referring to weaknesses and shortcomings they are not Sin and we are not to judge them as such in others or ourselves.

1John 1:5-10 This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is Light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth: But if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all Sin. If we say that we have no Sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our Sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our Sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. K.J.V

When we read 1John 1 in context it tells us that if we walk in darkness or Sin we do not know Jesus, so it is not talking about continuing to Sin but is referring to our Salvation as I shared before and if we claim we don’t need Salvation because we haven’t Sinned we are calling God a liar. When we are Born Again and Perfected in Love which we are all to aim for, putting our Carnal flesh to death, as the Scriptures confirm we are cleansed from all unrighteousness which causes us to Sin, we are conformed into the image of Jesus because He lives in us and we walk as He walked on earth, which was in Love and without Sin.

1John2:6 He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked. KJV

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 6-7 ) Whosoever abideth in Him Sinneth not: whosoever Sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth Righteousness is Righteous, even as He is righteous.

1 John 3:9 No one who is Born of God will continue to Sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on Sinning, because he has been Born of God.

1 John 5:18-20 We know that no one who is Born of God Sins; but He who was Born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

John 8:34-36 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who Sins is a slave to Sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

  2. The True Light!

This is a very good article for re-posting, Sue. How true it is in the “trending Godless” society!
