It’s That Time of Year Again

Oooh to step into a home with the Christmas tree decorated, the Christmas music playing, and the aroma of cookies in the oven. That’s how it used to be at my house. I’d put on my old Easter Airline servicing apron, roll up my sleeves, have the flour, sugar, vanilla, nuts, and raisins – all the ingredients set out on the counter along with my hand held mixer and my big glass bowl.

It was a joyous time and while humming to Silent Night playing on the stereo and dumping ingredients into my big glass bowl I felt the spirit of Christmas.

But…

Those days are gone! There’s no more ingredients lined on the counter top, no more hand held mixer to lick the beaters, no more big glass bowl or humming to Christmas carols on the stereo. After we lose a husband the joy of baking seems to go with him into the grave. Its sad I know but filling box after box of various cookies, fudge candy, and small bread loaves and placing them in the freezer for enjoying later just isn’t fun anymore.

So for many years I have not done any baking. Its easier to go to Publix grocery store to their bakery. Ohhh their cakes are moist, their donuts have yummy filling, and their little loaves of Banana nut bread are moist and tasty. Why would I want to go through all that again just to bake a few cookies or some other treat that’s common during this Christmas season? Its only me so why bother?

Somehow the Christmas spirit has sneaked in and this old gal decided to try a Cranberry bread loaf my sister made. It sounded good so I asked her to send me the recipe and maybe some day I’d try it, knowing full well that would probably never happen!

But it did – today!

I’d bought the ingredients and had everything lain out. Picking up the one orange, the recipe called for one teaspoon of orange rind. You have got to be kidding! Looking at the orange in my hand, “I bought a whole orange just for a lousy teaspoon of rind? Now I have to eat the orange and it has all that acid in it that upsets my stomach!” But I grated the one teaspoon and set the orange aside.

Did I say this was going to be a small loaf, well, three small loaves, of Cranberry bread? Cutting the corner off the bag of frozen cranberries, obviously I wasn’t going to need the whole bag, I let some fall onto my cutting board and grab the big knife. The recipe calls for chopped cranberries, frozen or fresh. Mine have been in the freezer for a couple of weeks.

Have you ever tried to chop these frozen little marbles as they shoot across the counter, a dozen shoot off onto the floor, and sneak up a slid down sleeve? No? Well let me tell you, chasing these little “marbles” across a kitchen floor and trying to catch them before they roll under the fridge while high stepping so as not to step on one that will squish like stepping on a large cockroach, is no fun! About the time I thought I had all of them I hear squish, which almost sent my back out, jumping.

Finally chasing down and corralling the several little red frozen marbles I grab my sifter to sift the flour, and how it happened I have no idea, but there’s more flour on the front of my sweatshirt than there is in the big glass bowl. I haven’t looked in the mirror so I don’t know if there’s any covering my face. If there is I’ll just have to laugh and go on… or cry.

Did I say it’s been a long time since I did any baking?

Okay, I have my mini loaf pans all greased and floured sitting to the side for my wonderful little bread loafs. Oh, I forgot, I have to chop up some nuts, too. Thank God they aren’t round and I can just hold them in check while chopping. I need to measure some orange juice, too. Did I mention its full of acid and upsets my stomach? It didn’t take the whole little bottle so of course I can’t throw good juice away. Now I have an orange to eat and a half a bottle of orange juice to drink. I can feel the need for an antacid already.

But God is good and I finally get everything mixed and spoon all my cranberries, orange rinds, nuts, and whatever else into my little loaf pans and pop them into the oven. 40 minutes later I open the oven and the aroma of fresh baked bread fills the house.

Now the kitchen is cleaned, the loaves cooled and I can take a taste. Hmmm a little dry but good.

THIS IS WHY MY ROOMMATE DOES THE BAKING!

I have just one thing to add about this experience – Judy, don’t EVER send me another recipe that has little frozen marbles!

Merry Christmas everyone.

Culture of Death

The sad truth of today’s mind sets.

Freedom Through Empowerment

There is an old saying that politics is downstream of culture, meaning the values and ethics expressed through societal norms, eventually become political ones. I generally believe this to be true, although things can flow both ways. Today, we are living in profoundly antihuman times and I suspect the main driver of this is that the large numbers of people having walked away from God over the years is finally showing up full bore in our political system.

In a nutshell, the dominant culture has turned against God and so our politics have too. And since to be anti-God is to be antihuman, many political policies go directly against human flourishing and enrichment.

This downward trend had been happening for awhile, but reached its nexus during Covid, when we were forced to become lab rats for involuntary experimentation and all of life was reduced to avoiding a virus. Nearly everything…

Why Libs, Dems, LGBT and Trans Activists Can’t Identify the Source of Their Own Deep Confusion

By Apmichael on Dec. 1, 2022

Satan makes us all the same offering

What do we call a generation that decided there are over 150 genders?

This is a generation that thinks they are better educated and scientifically minded, but spirituality, morality, and the inclination to take God at his word are transcendent. It is a case of giving to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.

Conversely, it is also a case of getting from God the things that are God’s and getting from Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.

This generation can hardly describe what happened to the last generation, they know little of their own history, and they are victims of their own crumbling transient culture, rather than followers of something classically new or even remotely attractive.

We know that foxes are always ready to raid the hen house and hens never act like foxes – but we don’t seem to know why

Everyone acts according to their own nature, and that is the easiest way to introduce the most fundamental truth about human nature as described in the bible.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1Cor 2:14)

Spiritual people, conversely, never act or think like natural (unspiritual) people. They have the word of God working in them and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to give them unction and guidance.

Because natural men and women won’t even consider the sovereign authority of God they always fall into the trap of ignorance. They may be highly intelligent and have a great deal of savvy in many areas, yet spiritual things fly over their heads like a B-52 on a mission.

The three major facts unbelievers never discern

First, most unbelievers think that the Christians are a bunch of people who strongly believe in the Bible. They often think the believers are just deluded folk, caught up in the poetry, allegory and spurious history of a very ancient book of pious platitudes.

Real Christians think that book is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible revealed will and counsel of the Living God. They don’t just believe it, but they live by it – and they are willing to die by it as well.

We invite unbelievers to our source, but we cannot force or drag them to it – They have the same power of choice we did on the day we decided that Christ meant what he said about everlasting life.

Christ declared very simply that when you’re dead – you are just not dead.

Having walked out of his own tomb is why we tend to take him seriously.

Secondly, between one quarter to one third of the Bible is prophecy. It gives fair warning to all mankind. It cannot be altered, but it can, and unfortunately will be largely ignored.

Prophecy even warns that prophecy will not be believed as the days darken and the return of Christ approaches.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (2Pet 3:3-4)

Even worse is the prophetic promise that as the last days approach God will lift his hand from us and he will allow us to wander in any direction we may desire.

Wander we will!

Thirdly, unbelievers are loathe to admit that their inspiration comes from the Devil or Satan directly. They may think they are the captains of their own destiny, but God declares that they are all under the direct or indirect influence of the god of this world.

They have indirect influence if they follow the crowd, the acceptable doctrine, behaviors, and trends. They are guided directly if they do, or are involved in great evils and perversions.

Devils and demons are for people not for parlor tricks. The promise of scripture is that billions of devils are set free to roam the earth in the last days. They all find homes, or as the Bible says “hosts” – that is people.

Satan clearly admits that he controls people, communities, cities, kingdoms, and nations – but people who don’t believe God are also reticent to believe Satan.

Let’s see.

“And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.” (Luke 4:5-6)

Finally, Satan also made an offer.

“If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.” (Luke 4:7)

In our beleaguered nation it is abundantly apparent that many have taken him up on his offer.

Here is the alternative.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Ro 10:9-10)
