Dinner Guests

A soft breeze rustles the thick leaves on the abundance of trees. The grass is dark green and lush, and the Azaleas are in full bloom basking in the warm sun.

The woman goes to her garage and picking up the small bucket she fills it with corn kernels and smiles. They’ll get their dinner today, she thinks.

Donning her boots she steps out the back door and wades through the wet grass to the “plate” she has hanging on a shepherd’s hook and pours the corn, filling it.

Later that evening, just before the sun recedes, she excitedly goes to her back deck and takes a seat to wait.

Kicking up her feet and settling down, a Man steps up and asks, “May I join you?” She smiles, pats the seat of the rocking chair beside her, and the Man takes a seat.

They chat softly for a few minutes and suddenly she exclaims, “Here they come!”

Gracefully, almost as though they are gliding, three sleek coated tan doe deer walk across the upper part of her yard and are heading for their dinner of corn.

The woman smiles broadly. “Oh how I love seeing them,” she whispers to the Man.

“I know.” He replies.

“They are so beautiful and so graceful. Oh look! Two are eating together. Those are the twins; Dolly and Molly.” She whispers pointing to the two younger deer.

The Man smiles broadly. He loves the joy she is feeling.

“You had one you could walk up to last year. You named her Betsy.” The Man states.

“How did you know that!?” she asks surprised.

“I am the I Am. I created them.” Then adds, “And you.”

Shocked, “Oh my gosh! You’re…”

The Man cuts her off.

He smiles at her and states, “It was nice sitting with you. Enjoy the deer.”

“But wait!” she whispers as He walks off around the corner of her home.
