Child sex trafficking is the fastest growing criminal business in the U.S.

By Dr. Eowyn

The FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is America’s central database for tracking crime-related information, and interlinked with federal, tribal, state, and local agencies and offices.

According to the NCIC, there were 465,676 missing children in 2016, an increase of nearly 5,000 since a year ago. Of the nearly 25,000 runaways reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2017, one in seven were likely victims of child sex trafficking. Of those, 88% were in the care of social services when they went missing. (Source)

Human trafficking is the commercial sexual exploitation of American children and women, via the Internet, strip clubs, escort services, or street prostitution.

John W. Whitehead, a constitutional attorney, is the founder and president of The Rutherford Institute and the author of Battlefield America: The War on the American People. In a well-sourced article on The Rutherford Institute, Whitehead alerts us to these alarming and horrific facts about child sex-trafficking in the U.S.:

  • Sex trafficking—especially the buying and selling of young girls—is the fastest growing business in organized crime (CBS Austin) and the second most-lucrative commodity traded illegally, after drugs and guns (WGBH). Why? Because, as investigative journalist Amy Fine Collins points out, it is “more lucrative and much safer to sell malleable teens than drugs or guns. A pound of heroin or an AK-47 can be retailed once, but a young girl can be sold 10 to 15 times a day.”
  • Children—some as young as 9 years old—are being bought and sold for sex in America. The average age for a girl being sold for sex is 13 years old. (DHS)
  • Adults purchase children for sex every two minutes, at least 2.5 million times a year in the United States. (HuffPoUSA Today)
  • Who buys a child for sex? Otherwise ordinary men from all walks of life. “They could be your co-worker, doctor, pastor or spouse,” writes journalist Tim Swarens, who spent more than a year investigating the sex trade in America.
    • In Georgia alone, it is estimated that 7,200 men (half of them in their 30s) seek to purchase sex with adolescent girls each month, averaging roughly 300 a day.
  • It is estimated that at least 100,000 children—girls and boys—are bought and sold for sex in the U.S. every year, with 300,000 children in danger of being trafficked each year. (Herald Tribune) Some of these children are forcefully abducted, others are runaways, and still others are sold into the system by relatives and acquaintances.
  • On average, a trafficked child might be raped by 6,000 men during a five-year period of servitude. (Sun Sentinel)
  • Child sex trafficking is not an urban problem, but takes place everywhere, right under our noses, in suburbs, cities and towns across the nation.
  • Where do sexual predators find their child victims? On social media like Facebook and MySpace ; malls, bus stops, high schools, middle schools; foster homes and youth shelters.

Whitehead attributes the epidemic of sex trafficking to:

  1. Consumer demand “that is increasingly lucrative for everyone involved — except the victims”.
  2. Government corruption: “a level of corruption so invasive on both a local and international scale that there is little hope of working through established channels for change”.
  3. Women’s groups who do nothing.
  4. “An eerie silence from individuals who fail to speak out against such atrocities.”

Whitehead’s advice on what we can do:

  1. Educate yourselves and your children about this growing menace in our communities.
  2. Stop feeding the monster: This epidemic is largely one of our own making. Sex trafficking is part of a larger continuum in America that runs the gamut from homelessness, poverty, and self-esteem issues to sexualized television, the glorification of a pimp/ho culture—what is often referred to as the pornification of America—and a billion dollar sex industry built on the back of pornography, music, entertainment, etc. According to The Atlantic, the porn industry brings in more money than Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Yahoo.
  3. Call on your city councils, elected officials and police departments to make the battle against sex trafficking a top priority, more so even than the so-called war on terror and drugs and the militarization of law enforcement.
  4. Stop prosecuting adults for victimless “crimes” such as growing lettuce in their front yard. Focus instead on putting away the pimps and buyers who victimize these children.
  5. Finally, the police need to do a better job of training, identifying and responding to these issues; communities and social services need to do a better job of protecting runaways, who are the primary targets of traffickers; legislators need to pass legislation aimed at prosecuting traffickers and “johns,” the buyers who drive the demand for sex slaves; and hotels need to stop enabling these traffickers, by providing them with rooms and cover for their dirty deeds.

Surf’s Up

“Surf’s up,” the young man yells. He grabs his surf board and rushes toward the water.

The waves crash against the shore and wading out toward the vast raging sea the young man jumps onto his board and paddles frantically against the waves.

Others follow with shouts of joy. A young girl hesitantly carries her surf board to the waters edge. She stands looking out at the raging water, takes a deep breath, and wades out into the sea.

Paddling towards the oncoming wave a shiver skirts down her spine. She hesitates just a moment and plunges her hands down into the salty sea to press against the force of the oncoming water.

She isn’t strong enough to skirt the top of the huge wave raging toward her and suddenly it overtakes her. Frothing foam, salt stings her eyes, her long blonde sun-streaked hair covers her face. Her surf board has escaped to the unknown.

Water swallows her up. She tries to scream. She needs air but the only air is far above her as she is swirled, slammed and tossed about as easily as seaweed with tons of water. Her body weakens as she fights to live.

“Please Jesus, save me” she silently screams.

As her body slumps in exhaustion and the last of her precious air seeps away she feels strong hands slowly lifting her. With the slight effort left in her body she slowly opens her eyes.

The face she sees is smiling, love filled eyes look at her. “You asked, My child, and I have answered. I’m here and I will never leave you nor forsake you. You are safe in My arms.”

Moments later, opening her eyes, like Jonah being spit out of the fishes belly, the young girl finds herself safely lying on the beach. People are gathered around her asking if she’s alright. Concern covers their faces and someone asks, “How did you get here? Where’s your surf board?”

Glancing from face to face the young girl weakly smiles and whispers, “Thank you, Jesus. You saved me.”

As we journey through this life and face the good times, the bad times, the times of joy, and times of peace, we are safe in the Father’s arms if we have accepted His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.

Are We Attentive to God’s Needs?

The desert is hot and humid. The sun beats down on a lone tree. It’s arms reaching out as though seeking the moisture that kisses its leaves.

The heat is oppressing but the dew from the night still lingers. The strong gnarled trunk stands majestically holding up the arms of time.

Beneath the shade of the old tree at an old rock kneels a Man. His head bowed and drops of sweat drip down His cheeks. His silent prayer becomes agonizing as His sweat turns to blood and drips down forever staining the rock.

“Take this cup” His anguished voice pleads.

Men that He has called friends slouch a few yards away, asleep. They hear not the anguished cry of their friend, the Man they called friend.

Tears stream, blood red sweat pours as the Man kneels with His head hanging low. “Not My will but Thine,” He finally whispers as  His friends snore.

After some time He slowly, painfully, rises. He walks toward His friends and sees they are sound asleep. He stands silently looking down at them.

Slowly the closed eyes of His friends begin to open and they look up at the Man and make no apology as they rub their calloused hands across their eyes and beards.

“So you could not watch with Me an hour?”* The Man states.

His friends say nothing.

The Man waits a moment.

Silence.

The Man finally turns and walks slowly away leaving his friends,  slouched and yawning.

Thursday’s Pen Tip – Hope, Love, & Salvation

“Woe to those who walk not with the Lord Jesus Christ. For the wrath of God will be poured out and death is their destiny.

Through the blood of Christ being poured out, there is hope, love, and eternal salvation.

Fear not My children for you have been sanctified by Almighty God through His Son, Jesus Christ.”

“I will be a father to you. And you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Cor. 6:18

Thursday’s Pen Tip – Earth is Not Your Home

Earth is not Your Home

The moon glows bright over the night skies. The sun warms the earth during the daylight hours. It is the will of God that all things are in the order of His command.

Take heart My loved ones, for it is He who loves you that will bring you to your eternal home. It is He who loves you that will ease your pain. The earth is not your home. You are destined to spend all of eternity with Me, your loving Father who is above all.

Take up your swords and fight the enemies that come at you. The sword of the Spirit is My word and there is no other authority above Me.

Be at ease in your walk, for I am with you. I am the I Am!

Thursday’s Pen Tip – Evolution vs Creation

“There are those that teach others that the world was not created by some unseen force called God.

Scientists that feel they have the answers to the complexities of life are fools!

I wonder what the Almighty, He who loves all, feels when He hears the children repeat the nonsense of those teachings.

“Man evolved from a fish,” they say.

Who created the fish?

“Man evolved up from a tadpole.”

Who created the tadpole, or, the sea that the fish and tadpole lived in?

“Man began as a molecule and evolved from that.”

Who created the molecule?

“In the beginning God created the heaven and earth.” Gen. 1:1

“Let us make man in our image…” Gen. 1:26

Do you believe?”

Surprise?

The wind is blowing moving the leaves on the tree branches as though God is blowing a big breath across the land. A Man walks across heavens field and looking around announces, “I am coming. Look up all ye that believe.”

The sound of horses hooves echo across the sky. Thunder rolls vibrating all that is in its path. The blast of a trumpet resounds drowning out the clap of thunder as streaks of lightning streak down from the heavens.

Gasps are heard throughout the cities. People stop and look up. “What’s happening?” is whispered as others scream in terror. “It is He!” someone shouts and tries to hide behind the corner of a building. Others have fallen to their knees and “praise be to God Almighty” is heard from reverent voices.

“I am coming” echoes off the mountains, the buildings, the clouds above.

Suddenly people are dropping like flies, graves are flying open, and others are being lifted bodily toward the sky. Thousands, millions, are gathered like swarms of locusts marching toward their heavenly home. Others lie dead, their flesh rotting like stale meat.

“I am coming,” the Man, the Great I Am shouts as His horse tramples the clouds and the sun turns to darkness. Screams, cursing, tormented souls fall silent and an eery silence fills the land.

The Man steps off His steed and looks about, looking across the devastation of bodies. Tears fill His eyes. He looks heavenward and tells His Father, “I am so sorry, Father. I warned them.”

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with a voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” 1Thes. 4:16-17

Give Hope

There are times in all of our lives that we feel that what we do is not worthwhile or significant and that no one cares. There is One who does care and regardless of what society, an individual, or even small groups of people think, we are significant in the eyes of the Almighty Lord.

I have gone through those times at various times of my life. I was insignificant in a dysfunctional family growing up. But God didn’t see me that way! He gave me the ability to survive the atrocities that were being inflicted upon me by others. I was loved by the Great I Am!

Through the years I experienced what could be called “love” from others. Men who I thought I could be the “apple of their eye.” Only to be used as their “conquest.” I have experienced the rejection of others more times than I can count, but God never rejected me!

Through the years I have learned many lessons in this journey through life and most have been valuable and some inconsequential. But the one thing I have finally learned is that no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in there is One who knows every tear we shed, knows every bit of the hurt we feel, knows every disappointment, has bottled our tears and has stored them in a secret place in heaven. He knows our heart and when we reach out to Him or to others. He cares!

Today, I am feeling quite humbled that the Lord my God, my Savior Jesus Christ would use someone like me, someone who rejected Him for years, to bring hope to others who are going through tough times.

My fingers are sore. I have a callous on my thumb from a crochet hook flying through the yarn. I am greatly humbled that the gift, or talent, He has given me is bringing joy to several patients with hair loss, vomiting, and fevers from the side affects of chemotherapy. The hats and the scarves that lend warmth on a cold winter day seem like such a small gesture but the joy in the eyes of those who are suffering makes it all worth while.

There’s no intend of patting myself on the back. I give all praise, honor, and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ for how He can, and will, use me and you to bring a little joy in the lives of others.

So what is my message here?

No matter what your circumstances, no matter what life has shoved at you, you can be used by God to bring a smile, a tear of joy, and hope to others. What has the Lord Almighty gifted you with? What talent can He use through you to give hope and joy to others?

Let His Holy Spirit work through you, within you, and for you. His healing from all those life situations and circumstances will bring you the joy and peace that only He can give and with that same Holy Spirit you can share it with others. Let His light shine within you and through you and fill the hearts of others.

“Lord my God, I called out to you for help, and You healed me.” Ps. 30:2

That is the message on the little tag I attach to each item given.
