High on a Hill

The day was cold. Rain had poured down soaking the ground. The river was flooding, water rushing over the jagged rocks and forcing its way south.

On the bank stands a Man. He looks up to the sky, whispers a few words, and takes a seat under the only tree. A large tree, a tree with arms reaching to heaven. Strong arms, arms filled with lush leaves and a trunk that can stand any storm.

The sun begins to peek through the dark gray clouds. Sighing heavily the Man stands. He takes a few steps toward the raging river. He lifts one foot and slowly places his toes in the water.

He hears the sound of horses hooves drawing near. Louder and louder they come. Turning slightly His lips quirk at the corners. He knows who is approaching and why they are coming.

The horses stop near by. Men in their soldier gear dismount and approach. One man points his finger toward the Man by the river and yells, “That’s Him!”

The soldiers quickly walk toward Him and grab Him. But one of the men in the group is the Man’s friend and quickly draws his sword. He swings at the soldier and misses his target lopping off a part of his ear. “Oh rats! I’ll get’cha this time” the friend thinks.

The friend raises his sword and takes aim.

The Man chastises him.

He lowers his sword and takes a step back.

The Man places His hand over the bleeding ear of the soldier, healing it.

A few questions are asked and the soldiers lead the Man away.

The hill is high. The skull carved in the rock beneath the three crosses is a testimony of the evil that is taking place. The Man hangs limply, nailed to the Cross. His strength is gone. Blood pours from His wounds. Slowly lifting His head a mere inch from His chest He asks His Father to “forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

The blood drips, water oozes from His side, pain sears through His body and weakly sucking in a breath His last labored words set the world on edge…

“It is finished!”

Thursday’s Pen Tip – Hope, Love, & Salvation

“Woe to those who walk not with the Lord Jesus Christ. For the wrath of God will be poured out and death is their destiny.

Through the blood of Christ being poured out, there is hope, love, and eternal salvation.

Fear not My children for you have been sanctified by Almighty God through His Son, Jesus Christ.”

“I will be a father to you. And you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Cor. 6:18

Hope Deferred?

Another year has passed and as we step into this new year many of us have many expectations we hope to be fulfilled. The way the world is going, the unfolding of prophetic events leave me wondering if I will even be privy to the joy, hope, and excitement that may or may not come. I hear so many say they are excited about this new year and what the Lord might do. I don’t have that same excitement. Maybe it’s because I’m grounded in the Lord and in His promises. Maybe I’m being too much of a realist. I know that He is in control and when I pray for this country and our politicians I pray His will be done. I know the Lord is going to do what He is going to do. My hope does not lie in the government or a new president or any of the other worldly expectations being fulfilled.

That may sound negative to many but if God is in control then I need to trust that He knows what is best and that the events that are happening and that will happen will be according to His will and for His good purposes. And if something happens that He allows even though it wasn’t His will I still know that He will use what is meant for evil for His glory.

He has told me on several occasions that our present president was allowed to be in office to lead us closer to the fulfilment of His prophecies. In short, His return. I can’t help but rejoice in that even though I get angry and have furious outbursts about this president and our so-called leaders. I hate the evil that is taking place in this world but it is no surprise to those of us that read and believe what the Bible says. We’ve been told and are still being told and warned. He is calling us to repent of our evil ways and yet it seems nothing is getting better. He also tells us that it is going to get worse.  Now how can I get excited about that!?

A new year on the horizon does not change the fact that God has a purpose. I have absolutely no doubt that His purposes will be fulfilled. That doesn’t prevent me from praying. I have heard from some that we, as praying Christians, can bring a delay to some events. I don’t know if that is true or not but for me, I don’t want His return delayed! I wait, I watch, I anticipate, and the only expectation I have is hoping to see Him return on the clouds and hearing the trumpet blow.  Now that causes excitement and joy within me!

Our hope is not in what we can do, what we can attain, some new president that promises to save the world, or some new job, new home or whatever it is in this world that we hope for. Our hope is in the Lord and that when we stand before Him He will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That is my hope for this new year. My prayer is, come Lord Jesus, come.

Growing in Grace

Grace is everything God is. It is His Essence. Besides being unconditional love given to us as His free gift it is His power that indwells us through His Holy Spirit to give us everything we need to do anything He calls us to do. His power through His Holy Spirit gives us the ability to believe and have the faith to follow His Son, no matter where He leads us.

“This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourself to be My disciples.” John 15:8

“And this is my prayer, that your love many abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.” Phil. 1:9

“Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.” Phil.1:11

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge.” 2Peter 1:5

“Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger.” Job 17:9

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:18

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your love, O Lord, endures forever – do not abandon the works of Your hands.” Ps. 138:8

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” Phil. 3:14-16

“The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Prov.4:18
